The advantage the renewables is that they can be deployed on a small scale. Fossil fuel-based energy production requires large investment and capacity creation. Four years would not be enough to make a dent in that. You cannot fire up a coal-powered plant in four years. Hell, it might take you that long to have the feasibility done and get the requisite licenses.
I think the shift to sustainable energy sources will play out, albeit, more slowly.
