Discipline for the sake of it
There is a problem with too much or too little of everything
If you Google “Helicobacter Pylori”, you will get a slew of results about the infections that it causes. It is known for causing ulcers in the human gut. In extreme cases, it has been shown to have a relationship with Stomach Cancer as well.
But…
The absence of H. Pylori results in Acid reflux and by extension Oesophagal Cancer.
The human biota carries billions of Bacteria. They need to be in the right proportion. Just like your thermostat, if the temperature is too high it is uncomfortable or if it is too low it is uncomfortable. It needs to be set just right.
Since June 2021, I have been working out 6 days a week without fail. I have deviated from this routine for a grand total of 3 weeks in the last 2 years. Not to mention, I have kept increasing the intensity month after month. Where I used to burn 800 calories a day in 2021, I average 1200 a day now.
During this time I managed to train myself to run a 10-minute mile, Cycle 50 Km in one go and bench press 40Kgs. Why?
I started working out to lose weight. I lost 17 Kg in 2021 and then just kept upping it.
I was disciplined for the sake of being disciplined.
Lost sight of the forest for the trees.
That was until I ripped the tendon on my right elbow last week. I woke up the next morning and I could not brush my teeth. The pain was excruciating. I was drinking water from a glass, like Donald Trump.

I just could not lift the glass with one hand.
To compensate for my inability to lift any weight, I decided to go all in on Cardio and 2 days in, developed pain in my right knee.
Sometimes your body just needs rest. Sometimes discipline needs a break!
Today as I was standing in the gym lifting 1 kg dumbells like some geriatric, I just stopped. Did not do any workouts. It helped.
What is the point of being disciplined if it is hurting you?
On the theme of an excess of discipline, I have been writing this blog twice (Monday and Friday) a week without fail since March 2020. That is 40 months of non-stop writing. The first time I missed a post was 4 weeks ago on a Monday.
Many times I find I am shoe-horning stuff into articles because I do not have much insight to offer.
I started a podcast along with the blog but stopped it because it was too much work trying to produce all of it (record, edit, mix, deliver) all by myself. Also, the cadence was not helping.
I am going to stop doing this. I plan to restart recording the podcast but reduce the number of articles I release each month.
We all must keep evolving, this is my evolution. Let us see how this goes.
Sometimes the routine takes away the creativity part of things. Its important to spice it up a bit.
To be honest I always loved your podcadts which introduced your articles to me. So will be happy to hear you.
All the best, you dont know what works bettet of you dont try something different.
Long live the King
